Movie Research- IT

Image
"It" is a horror movie that follows the conventions of the supernatural horror genre. The film features elements of a terrifying creature, eerie and atmospheric settings, and a group of characters dealing with unexplainable events. One convention of the genre that I appreciated in "It" was the use of jump scares. The movie effectively built tension and then delivered shocking moments that left the audience on the edge of their seats. The use of dark, ominous lighting and unsettling music also added to the overall creepy atmosphere of the film. Another convention that worked well in "It" was the exploration of the unknown and the unexplained. The group of protagonists embarks on a journey to uncover the truth behind the mysterious entity terrorizing their town, drawing in the audience as they uncover chilling secrets. However, one convention of the supernatural horror genre that did not appeal to me in "It" was the reliance on graphic and gory i

Movie Research - The Exorcist

Image
After viewing the movie The Exorcist (1973) which falls into the genre choice of horror or more specifically supernatural horror. A consistent set of conventions were present. The Exorcist uses conventions like effective use of sound effects both diegetic and non-diegetic and atmospheric tension through the use of dark lighting to set the mood of a movie intended to scare you. Along with these is the use of visual effects and editing to achieve the effect of a supernatural killer, a common troupe in the supernatural horror genre. There is also usage of gore and jump scares also used consistently throughout the movie. There were a few elements which stuck out to us as conventions that Sophie and I are excited to implement ourselves in our Final Task. These conventions included things like the usage of a unsettling music score and suspenseful ambience which help put the audience on edge. These two help build up the anticipation of a scare and keep them uncomfortable but yet unabl

Movie Research - Halloween (1978)

After viewing the movie Halloween (1978) which falls into the genre choice of horror a clear and consistent set of conventions used were present. Halloween uses conventions like suspenseful music, isolated settings, and dark and gloomy lighting to set the mood of a movie intended to scare you. Along with these is the use of a masked killer which is a common troupe in horror films as well as the final girl troupe where the last female protagonist faces the killer in the end. There is also usage of gore and jump scares which is used consistently throughout the movie. There were a few elements which stuck out to us as conventions that Sophie and I are excited to implement ourselves in the Final Task. These conventions included things like the usage of suspenseful and suiting music along with a suspenseful storyline. These two help build up the anticipation of a scare and keep the audience on the edge of their seat which is exactly where I want them. Also liked is dark lighting and th

Our Genre Decision

Image
Out of all the genres looked at, the genre of horror stuck out the most and caught our attention. The horror genre is by far the most versatile to work with, offering hundreds of subgenres and concepts for creative storytelling. This is especially useful when there is a limited time frame to create a story within. To make a good story all within the span of two minutes is difficult but horror would provide a genre in which this could work. Horror can also be created with lower quality equipment and still have the same scary, intense feeling which was another deciding factor since the group is not exactly gifted with 10,000 dollar cameras or lights. So the decision was made to use horror as the genre of this Final Task.

Horror Genre Research

In the horror genre, common camera angles, movements, and shots are used to create a sense of unease and fear. Low angles and extreme close-ups are often employed to make the audience feel vulnerable and to emphasize details that add to the creepiness of the scene. Quick, shaky movements and unexpected cuts are also used to build tension and scare the audience. Mis-en-Scene in the horror genre often includes dimly lit settings, eerie and desolate environments, and haunting or grotesque props and costumes. The use of shadows, fog, and other atmospheric elements also contribute to the overall sense of dread and terror. Editing in horror films involves techniques such as jump cuts, slow motion, and fast-paced montages to create a sense of unease and build anticipation. Sound plays a crucial role in horror films, utilizing eerie music, sudden silences, and jarring sound effects to startle and unsettle the audience. The Pitch- Final Task

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog and today the discussion is about the pitches for the Final Task.   Pitch A: Someone s watching the news about a local murder, and they hear the floorboard creaking in an empty house.   Pitch B: An emergency broadcast announcement interrupts a TV program warning of a local threat of paranormal activity, and noises keep whispering from the shadows.    About Pitch A: This pitch has a good solid base for making a story. The horror genre it falls into is such a flexible genre to work with as you can make almost anything scary. However it feels generic and very common. And due to the fact that news mentions there is a murderer, the versatility of what can be the antagonist is very set in stone. There is less creativity possible when everything is already set in place as definite things which are going to occur.      About Pitch B: This pitch is very similar to pitch A but without the creative limitations. Because the antagonist is not specifical

My group!- Final Task

Image
Welcome back bloggers! I picked my group for my final task today and decided to just go with a duo. For my group I picked one of my friends in my class named Anton. I picked him since we know each other well and we get along with each other. He is easy to work with and we get work done fast. I chose to only have one other person in the group so that it's easier to get work done. We don't have to wait on other people to do their part. Or have to wait for them to turn something in or bring a prop. It just makes the whole process go along much faster and smoother.  I chose him since the last project (the music video) that we did together went really well and we got our work done fast. And now that I'm 17 and I have my license i can get to places faster and easier. Last time I had to rely on him to go places and do the project and now I don't. I am also really exited to do this final task with him since we are both pretty creative. By that I mean that we can come up with s

About me!- Final Task

Welcome back guys! I missed you and I'm so glad you're back and ready for more incoming blogs! This will just be a refresher as to who I am just in case you forgot. My name is Sophie and I just turned 17. I play volleyball for club and for my school. But one is beach volleyball and one is indoor. I am trying to commit to a college for a sport, preferably volleyball or golf. I love going to the beach when the sun is setting to watch the sun set. I also love to go out with my friends and do some really fun things together. One of my favorite events to go to with my friends, is concerts. I love seeing my favorite people sing my favorite songs in person. I have a young orange cat named sprout and he is a little crazy but I think it is just because he is orange. I have a dog too but he is old and a little grumpy. My favorite subject in school is history because I love knowing why things happen and how it ended up. Another thing I love to do is cook. I like cooking food for the peo
